    Decoding build sheet 84 Corvette

Trying to find out when my 84 Corvette was built. The vin is 1G1AY0782E5124315. The build date says this 53-4315 Then under those numbers 11-17. Can you tell me what production number this car was and what date built?

    Walter,

The production Month/Year is found on the upper left corner of the Manufactured Date Certification Label (upper label) affixed to the driver's side door. That is the date used for judging. There is no "Birthday Book" for C4, so you cannot approximate a day of the month from the VIN.

Your VIN indicates the car was built somewhere in mid production (51547 cars in 1984). Do you have a metal trim tag located under the hood (right side rear lower hood bracket) (early car) or does it have a "Service Parts Identification Label" (paper label with RPO codes)(later cars)?

I would be curious what your build sheet looks like but in 82, the 53-4315 was the schedule number and the 4315 was the job number assigned to body panels during body assembly. The 11-17 would have been the "expected date of production" or when body assembly would begin.

The VIN 24315 was preassigned prior to assembly. As the other poster suggests look at the trim tag, or whatever the equivalent was in 84 for the point at which the tag was riveted to the body. Final build date usually follows a day or two later.

I would like to have a look at your build sheet. For my 90 box 5-6 has a date and time with a Julian date of 12/14/1989. My door sticker shows 01/90. After much research I believe that is the date and time the order information was enter into the system at the plant to begin assembly.
