    1963 Job Number Preservation

While cleaning the underside of my unrestored original coupe I've found the job number written on the lower firewall below the heater box. Not really sure what the significance is of the number but I do have all original paper work with the car so their may be a way to tie it to the documentation.

I have stopped cleaning in this area since the number may not be visible if I clean it more. What color should this marking be, what was it applied with (wax pen, chalk, etc.) and how would be the best way to restore or preferably preserve this marking?

You have simply cleaned the blackout off the fiberglass, I would stop there and if i did anything just a light coat of semi flat black if i did anything at all.

The number 29 is the job number, I believe the numbers went from 1 to 500 then back to 1 again.

The cleaning was done with simple green and a soft cloth. It looks like the blackout starts higher up on the firewall.

        Rob,
The #29 in your case is usually on the inside of both doors behind the door panels and also on the rear bulkhead. The rear bulkhead number is hard to see with the gas tank installed.

Where do the "black out" limits start/stop along the firewall? It appears to be where the firewall has a bend towards the back of the car, just below the heater box on the passenger side and just below where the steering shaft comes through the firewall on the drivers side.

I can see where there is some overspray from the blackout on the floorboard of the car near the rear.

Here are typical '63 job numbers on coupe doors...followed by my heater-side #.

I've seen blackout in various degrees looking at cars and old documents (Dobbins, etc)

I've been told my heater side job number is a 're-creation' - at any rate, not sure how to preserve it so I
left it alone...if its been there 50+ years already then I'll stay pat... I'd recommend that you do too...

Has anyone seen the job number applied in red?
