    71 Hood Lock Pin Adjustment

    Does anyone know how to adjust the lock hood pin on the early C3s (68-72). Mine is about 1/8 inch too high but not sure how to adjust the pin screw. Do you have to remove the whole lock pin assembly from hood to adjust the screw or there a lock nut at the bottom to loosen first?

    I'm not sure what you're asking here. The lock plate which is attached to the hood has no parts requiring adjustment. If you're referring to the cone-shaped lock bolt attached to the lower bracket, that bolt simply threads into the bracket. If adjustment is necessary, the "slit" in the cone can be used to engage an adjusting tool.

      Joe...

      I am referring to the cone shaped hood pin (or lock bolt as you you call it) with the slit at the top. I was not aware that you could simply turn it to adjust it. I thought that the lower bracket somehow had to be released to permit the adjustment. You referred to an "adjustment tool". Is there a name for this tool as I assume you are not referring to a screw driver. Always a great help, and much appreciated! Thanks

        Among the possible "adjustment tools" would be a screwdriver with a blade thin enough to work with the "slit". I did not mean to imply that there was some sort of special tool, only that a variety of tools could probably be used.

        By the way, you should also retain the spring seat from rotating when you turn the lock screw. You can use waterpump pliers for this purpose.

        If you have difficulty turning the lock bolt, here is what to do:

        1) Using a tool like waterpump pliers, rotate the spring seat counterclockwise to remove the seat, spring and bolt assembly from the bracket;

        2) Adjust the lock bolt as necessary in the spring, seat, bolt assembly;

        3) Re-install the assembly in the bracket.
