Re: CC Video on Rear Suspension Disassembly
I got that too Gene. Go to the 8:47 to 9:23 mark. Exactly what I went through recently on a '66. Could you imagine doing that using a torch with the body on? Yikes.
Rather than using 5000* oxy/acetylene, I chose my trusty Sawzall as the TA's were junk anyways. 42 seconds later and both TA's were cut free.

Re: CC Video on Rear Suspension Disassembly
Back in the day when new trail arms were not offered I saws all cut thru the shims and bolt on both sides of the trail arm. This was an option if the trail arms were good but the bolt would not come out and the body was not removed. Frame off is the way to go if one needs to get that deep into a Corvette. Boy does rust make a mess of things.........!I got that too Gene. Go to the 8:47 to 9:23 mark. Exactly what I went through recently on a '66. Re: CC Video on Rear Suspension Disassembly
Like this? These were rust-welded together. Yuk.
I tried the Sawzall on the bolts, but the solid rusted shims prevented me from getting in there. I tried on each side for about a hour, then was able to get the bolt to spin on one side, thought I was making progress with Mr Sawzall, but no go. The bolt was seized to the bushing sleeve so all I was turning was the bolt/sleeve assembly.
That's when I made the call.........Cut the darn things right off at their ankles!

Re: CC Video on Rear Suspension Disassembly
My hat's off to you for restoring a car in such poor shape. I've done several body-off restorations but only to cars from the desert southwest. I must lead a charmed life as I've never as much as broken a bolt on dis-assembly let alone deal with rust issues. Thanks for saving another one.- Top
