    1963 Battery Cable Routing

Is there a clip or strap that secures the positive battery cable to the battery retainer/shield? In the assembly manual it appears that there is one but the diagram is unclear. I also noted that LIC sells a plastic retainer.

    Thanks

I used a clip on my May 29th '63. I don't recall there being any deducts for it in regional judging last January...

Rob, Yes there is a battery cable retainer or whatever you call it on the battery box. John

        Rob,

Yes, there is a metal retainer on early 63's and a plastic retainer on later 63 models.

Don't have a clue what the breakout point would be for the plastic but the plastic is probably accepted. You will need to check the judging manual or check with the 63-64 Team Leader. Number is listed in "The Restorer".

We were taking deducts for clip not present at the Regional in Aurbun this year.

            Joe,

Thanks for the reply. My early '63 FI car has a metal retainer screwed into the battery shield. My late 340HP (June '63 build) car does not have anything. Is there a picture of the plastic retainer and how it is attached available?

            Thanks,
            Rob

I think the black plastic wire harness clips will work and there is a hole in the metal battery shield that holds it to the battery box.

Correct, use the same black strap that you use on the gas overflow hose.

Harry, believe ones on the side fender inserted into holes will work. The gas tank has the same transparent strap as on the firewall.

Drove the 64 over 5000 miles to three Regionals and the San Jose National, one dust storm and 40 lbs of bugs!

Doink, yes the 63 Gas hose strap is transparent/white. It changed to black sometime after 64 as I recall. Too much to remember.

Is there a picture or diagram showing where the strap attaches to the battery shield? There is not a hole in mine. It's a reproduction/replacement battery tray and retaining shield.

Is this the correct strap and location?

                          Rob,

Yep! that's it! Just a plastic strap that's used for the wiring under the hood.

                          Works perfect!

Mine is a July 8 build and always had a black plastic strap. I've changed both the hold down and the strap several times in the past 53 years (also the cables). Got to change the battery again when it cools down. Average daily temp is 98 now which is abut too warm for garage work for this old codger. Poor car has to sit and wait it out until then.

                              Rob,
Could you please post a picture of the metal retainer on the battery shield on your early FI car? I'm familiar with the later used black harness tie, just never paid attention to the metal clip.
                              Thanks,
