    '67 Holley 3810 leaks

The original carb on my 67 S/B (Holley 3810) is leaking at the four plugs on the float bowls. I've used my dremmel tool to make a V around the circular joint, cleaned them and swabbed them with lacquer thinner in preparation for a tiny bead of JB WELD. However, before going any further I wanted to ask the brotherhood if there's a better product that the JB WELD for this fix which I should use. In my experience JB Weld does hold for a long while, but after some time in constant contact with fuel it begins to soften, loses its grip and then begins to leak/seep.
I'm eager to read your comments and recommendations.
Thanks in advance for whatever help you can proffer.

    Re: '67 Holley 3810 leaks

As an alternative to my impending JB Weld fix, is it possible to find Holley replacement bowls? My car only has 18,300 total miles and the carburetor is like new. It's a 300 hp/4-speed car.

      Richard,

The replacement bowls are available as far as I know, you will need to do some research on where to purchase them. Chicago corvette may be the source but call Holley and ask them first.

You can also call some of the better known Holley rebuilders and they may tell you how they epoxy the marine bowls when they overhaul these carburetors.

Don't fool around with gasoline, fix it right the first time. I would like to see pics of your car if you feel like posting some, sounds very nice.

        Tim,
Thanks for the encouraging response. I'll do some calling and see what's recommended for the fix. For now, I just bought a new replacement Holley (1850) so that the car is driveable whenever the spirit moves me. If the substitute proves to be a winner, I'll fix the original (either epoxy the bowls or replace them), stick it in a box and put it on the shelf. Did that to the middle carb of my other 67, a 435 hp tripower, when the throttle shaft got a little too worn to idle properly--it sits in a box labelled for the next owner.
If anyone else knows the answer to the epoxy question, please chime in.

Richard I used JB Weld on my Holley 6210 front fuel bowl. I used it on the top of the fuel bowl where there is a pressed in plug. The repair held up for a few years. I filed/ground the old JB Weld application and used more JB Weld when the leak returned. This worked for a while before it started to leak again. Bought a new fuel bowl for my 6210 Holley from JEGS. Fair price on the new part and it was shipped directly from Holley to my home address.
