    "U" Headmark Upper Hood Prop

Does anyone have any experience with this headmark for the upper hood prop for any midyear?

To be clear, I meant the bolt which is 1/4-20 with 7/16 head about 3/4 to 1 long with captive lock washer.

Are we talking about the screw asm that hold the Support Asm (3797079) or hood support? The upper on the hood are 9409107 while the lower units on the inner support are 3797168. Typically they are anchor heads. The heads are 3/8

Checking my old data on the subject and found some comments from Hanson -
p/n 3797168 is a 1/4-20 x 3/4" zinc plated screw with 3/8" sunken head, intergral plain washer, and cone point end. The head markings of the 2 on my car are the inverted "T" and an "anchor." This is the most typical headmarking although I seen some of the screws with plain heads and some with only the anchor (this is the bottom 2 on fender)
p/n 9409107 is a 1/4-20 x 5/8" zinc plated screw with a 7/16" sunken head, integral lock washer, and flat end. The head markings of the 2 on my car are the anchor although there might be other head markings. (on Hood)
While the assy manual does indeed call for a 9409107 for the upper hood support screws, in reality, they were actually the same 3797168 screw assy's that was supposed to be used in the lower end of the support. All four would be the same anchor head zincad plated screw with washer and a unique size (3/8") hex head.

The factory didn't install some of the supports with 2 different screws, instead of fishing around for the 3797168 screws for the support to fender location and the 9409107 screws for the support to hood location.

They were used in 62 in that position, I can tell you with absolute certainty.

            Alan...thanks for your info.

Mike...your data confirms what I was thinking...if midyear it would likely be 63. Rich Pasqualone told me he'd seen some in 64 but that is probably not a good choice if buying for a 64. Probably a great choice for an early 63.

"All four would be the same anchor head zincad plated screw with washer and a unique size (3/8") hex head", 3797168 Looked at a late 63 last night, very straight, however know NO history of car - it had all the same as mentioned. My 64 is a March car and all are also the same, ie 3797168 and I know those are originals.
Idea! If you know anyone at National ask them to take a look at all those C2 in the show, not sure if any untouched C2's are their. (will need to do today!)

Alan, like you I do not believe that everything in assembly followed the AIM. But unlike you I do not have the right bolts on the hood prop/support. I have purchased the lower just as you picture with the 3/8 head. For the upper I am going to follow the AIM and put in the 7/16 head blunt tip with captive lock washer. I considered going with the U head just because mine is an early car but have decided to be conventional and go with the anchor mark.
