64 Fan Shroud to Support Bolt 120228 or 120229

The AIM on page D184 show a 120229 changed to 120228 by "NPC & C7" or something...that's the best I can do at reading it. My prior research in the forum led me to believe they were 5/16-18 X 7/8 typically L, WB, WB1C or similar, but further reading today indicates the 120228 at least may have been shorter, 3/4 or even 5/8.

When installing six 7/8 WB bolts I found that the lower right jammed the lower radiator hose Leading me to believe that shorter is likely right.

So I just pulled one of the support to fender bolts page D185 which are the same AIM reference and they are 7/8 long. But in one of the earlier posts Rich Pasqualone posts a pic of a 120228 with no specified length but the thread cound says it is appropx 5/8.

How long are these bolts supposed to be and has anyone had the issue with the radiator hose interference (and how did they solve it)?

The NPC was for the L washer, #14, which is denoted by the circle and can be found below under SYM (believe I'm reading correctly)
It gets better (more confusing) many original cars used a pointed bolt in that location, story for another day.
I checked mine, it does not hit the radiator hose (close) however its the pointed style. Have not found part in the GM catalog yet and not sure of length.

It is clear that 7/8 is too long. The bolt is below the top of the lower radiator nipple/pipe so it pinches the hose to the pipe. In my case it caused a pin hole (which I sealed with an extra clamp) and I now need to replace the hose. I checked it again with two extra lock washers which takes up about .187 and it was still close to touching, couldn't tell which but couldn't get a feeler gauge to pass. It will have to be 5/8 or shorter. This is a Dewitt radiator so I'm fairly certain that is not the problem.

I would like to know if someone would take the time:

        1. From the 63 AIM what bolt part numbers are called out for the radiator shroud to support and also the support to fender.
        2. From the 65 AIM the same info for the small block.

        Thanks in advance.

          Larry
the 65 AIM UPC11-13 A4 shows the same illustration as the 64 AIM and bolt 15 is 120229 (not crossed out to 120228 as in the 64 AIM) and there is a note 4 at the bottom that indicates '12-30-64 was 120228'.
Sorry my 63 AIM is loaned out, but I suspect it will show 120228 for bolt 15.

So the 63, 64, and the 65 where pn 120229 See AIM's These were also used for the side supports and the center radiator bracket at least for 63/64. Sorry about the lower hitting problem, mine does not HOWEVER my radiator was held on by the non production pointed bolts which many C2 used, but if used expect a deduct.
