    Re: trailer tires help

Include the weight of the trailer AND the payload when looking for tires... I purchased load range "E" ... Not much cost differential and you get extra load capacity. Nearly all Trailer tires are made in CHINA. I purchased MAXXIS brand. Have had poor luck with Marathons. All the tires will probably rot or blister before they appear to be worn out.....typical life expectancy is about 4-6 yrs unless you do a lot of towing. Always run at recommended pressure. Heat buildup is a real enemy of tire performance

I have used the Goodyear Marathon radials (205X75X15) on my Trailex trailer (4 wheel, 2 axel) I use for my C2s and C3s. I have had no issues, they are standard equipment on the Trailex, but they are light trailers, so the tires are load range C, 1820 lbs./tire.

Same here for my popup camper, which weights 3500 lbs. I had to order them online, and they are made in China as the only option, but after having a "D" blow out on me I'll move to the E, which is what it should have based on weight.

I use Carlisle tires made for trailers. Always worked for me. And yes, they are made in Carlisle, PA a few blocks from the fairgrounds where Corvette Carlisle is held.

            Re: trailer tires help

I have a very heavy Haulmark vendor trailer. Especially when fully loaded. I ran various sets of Marathons for years. The trailer is indoors from Oct till End of March. The Marathons cracked big time in about 5 years.
IN PA Trailers are required to be inspected. Wonderful idea whether one likes it or not.
Two years ago it would not pass inspection (right before Fall Carlisle show) because of the tires all cracked, etc.
So the local dealer said he had a really great set of tires for my trailer. I was in a hurry as leaving for Carlisle in two days.
When I paid the bill he said the tires were made in China. I was not a happy camper. So when I am driving down the PA Turnpike I always worry about my foreign made tires.
Low air pressure causes more blow outs than anything I am told.
I used to travel all over the interstates going to a ton of shows. Don't do this anymore but when I did I saw a lot of trailer accidents. Why do guys have to pass everything on the road pulling a trailer. Never quite figured that out. John

speed and heat are a big problem. I think they all stink , carlisles were not radials and they blew out just as fast as Chinese good years. i know change every 24 months period. I used to tow 15k a year and could change a tire in 10 minutes, then i slowed down to 65 to 70 mph max and life span has increased

AGREE 100% , NOW PLEASE provide all the American made trailer tires. My tire guy has issues in that customers want USA made tires and can't come up with any.......!

My trailer came brand spanking new with sh*t china tires. Way too many of my friends have had china tires blow out while out on the road.

                        Stephen,

From what I'm reading on the Web, the MAXXIS brand trailer tire is made in Thailand and is of high quality. Good reviews too.
