67 Tail light panel replacement- what bonding adhesive

I am replacing the tail light panel on my 67 roadster. This the first time I have replaced any panels. I have the old panel off and the new panel seems to fit well. What bonding adhesive is best without having to buy a special gun to mix/apply? This is probably the only panel that I will replace. I searched the forum and found mention of Vette Panel Adhesive by Evercoat. I'm sure I will need a little extra working time to get it lined up properly. I could also use any tips, hints, and pictures to follow with the installation. I will try to post some pictures of the car later.
    Thanks,
    Tom

    Tom,

You ain't gonna want to hear this but the 3M adhesives are the best for repairing/replacing a panel. And yes you will have to borrow, rent or buy a gun for the two part adhesive. I will give you the 3M part number when I return home tomorrow.

I'm sure Joe and Paul are correct about the 3M product being that it's newer technology. I've never tried it. What I have used over several decades is Eckler's bonding adhesive and it's as good or better than what GM used when they assembled these cars.

3M 08115 is the best but you have to have a gun to mix it properly.

Thanks everyone for the info. I appreciate all the help that this board provides. I will have to start looking for a gun to borrow or maybe rent. Hate to buy one, but if I have to I guess I will.
I have other fiberglass work to do first so that will give me some time.

Anyone have a picture of the 3M gun that's required?

Thanks Joe, I found them on Amazon & Ebay along with others. I will check with the local PPG dealer also. Always good to buy local if possible and close in price.

What is the advantage of this 3M epoxy adhesive over the OE polyester adhesive when applied to original polyester panels?

The 3M has the best bonding adhesive traits. The two part is mixed in the gun and can be reused with adding a new nozzle. It can and will look from the back side like OE adhesive if used correctly. It will bond to metal if need be, sands easily and is compatible with all primers and fillers.

So it's the same as the OE stuff but you need a "special" gun to apply.

Was the priginal bonding adhesive mentioned in one of John's presentations as 1/8 chop glass polyester resin and hardner?

I'm interested as to what others have used for panel replacement. Since the 1980s I and a number of restorers I know have used Renpaste 1250. It comes in a pair of quart cans one resin the other hardener. It's made by Huntsman who makes a number of types of resins. I believe I bought this at GM dealer a long time ago. It's available now through a number of sources. Many years ago I compared this aluminum filled resin to PC-7 in red can avaiable at any hardware store. It's much cheaper. With simple break grind and smash tests they seem very similar. These resins are gray to dark gray depending on mix. Original GM panel adhesive looks almost black. Does anyone know what the original adhesive was?
