But its not unusual to be able to tune several radio stations on these old radios. The low frequency AM band - 550kHz to 1.6MHz - propagates well. That frequency band is not limited to line of sight like higher frequency radios are.
I have a 1956 Cadillac radio that will pull in WABC in New York City during the day, in my upstate NY basement, with the car antenna down. The wonder bar will stop on several stations.
Please let us know what you find if you pursue and fix this issue.
