    C2 Radio Speaker Re-cone Recommendations???

Can anyone recommend a vendor you have used recently that will re-cone a 1965 Corvette radio speaker? I've got one pictured below that I need to get re-coned.

Also the first two pictures below are the speaker that came out of my '65 without a/c. The third picture to the far right is a picture I've had from a thread about C2 Corvettes equipped with a/c. As you can see when comparing the first and third picture that the speakers are not an exact match based on the clocked position of the part located on the back of the speaker. Did in fact a/c cars have this part rotated 90 degrees for more clearance for the a/c dash pull cables and center outlet vent?

    Just wondering.

    Thanks,

    James West

I wouldn't re-cone it just buy new, I bought a new one about 3 years ago from http://www.turnswitch.com/speakers.htm it works great and price was very reasonable. They were recommended by many people.

I have used Jackson Speaker Service twice now and would recommend him.

I have had Ron McGee at Jackson Speaker Service in Jackson, Mi re-cone several speakers. Excellent workmanship. Also there is no such thing as Air Cond. speaker. They all used the same 7282156 delco speaker. The so called low profile air condition speaker is a 7282256 service replacement speaker. Both of these speakers are date coded. The 7282156 is ink stamped on the speaker along with a another number. This number might be 466539 for example. Not sure of the 466 number but the 539 in this example would be the 39 week of 1965. The so called Air Cond. speaker will have a date code for example 468140. Not sure of the 468 number but the 140 in this example would be the 40 week of 1971 or 1981. The 7282156 speaker is installed in the same direction in both air and non air cars.

Jackson Speaker Service did a good repair on my 1966 speaker. The repair did not take long, and was a reasonable price.

IF you plan to have your car judged, recone your original. This is a judged item as part of the instrument cluster/dash. I was "gigged" at a national event. I asked the judge how the heck he saw the speaker...he whipped out a mirror...... and was looking for the rectangular magnet holder.

Jackson Speaker Service is the only one for NCRS type restoration. Or you can buy one for $35.00 that works but collects no points.
