    What's This Carb From?

    I'm looking at a 1970 L46 car that has a later carb on it. Can someone tell me what Q-jet # 7044218 DK is from? The 2553 date indicates a Sept (1973/83...) build. I don't have a 1973 Judging Guide. My NCRS Pocket Guide is old and ends at 1972 (suppose I need to make a purchase at Carlisle this week, no?)

    Hoping someone knows and can/will help.

    Thanks.

    Re: What's This Carb From?

    The PN guide for Q-Jets I have shows:

    704 ==> 1970 to 75
    4 ==> 1974 model year
    2 ==> Federal (not Calif.)
    1 ==> Chevy
    8 ==> Automatic

    The Black Book doesn't list 7044218 for 1974, so this carb. is probably not originally for a Corvette.

      Well the 7044 puts it in the 1974 model year but the 218 was not used on Corvette.

        I believe this carburetor was used on '74 GMC and Chevy trucks with 350 engines.

          Yup, that's the correct application. Also, I do not recommend 1974 model year carbs for any performance application unless they are heavily "worked over". 1974 model year carbs were heavily "burdened" by emission-related calibrations.
