    Ignition shielding for 58 fuelie

Hi. Went to Carlisle today, still searching for ignition shielding for 58 fuelie (250 HP). Looking for a few years and seems to just be a hard find. I see Keen Corvette parts says they have a complete kit. Of course the real hard part is the top shielding.

So, is this a hard find, is Keen's kit really right, etc.

    Thoughts / suggestions appreciated.

    Thanks. Doug

Hi Doug, I remember you asking about this at Carlisle. Not sure if you have a photo of an original but it would help in your search.
Maybe someone here will do that.
On page 60 of the yellow 58-60 manual(4th) there is a sketch of a top view. Not that helpful for you. You need some photos from one of the members here of the correct part. Your top shield is the same for "most' of the '58 to '60's. Contains a large coil budge.
On page '59 it describes the things to look for.
250 HP or 290 HP I believe is the same shield. Carbs are on there own as far as the shield goes.
Would be nice if the next manual has some pics as this is a common question I hear. John D

HI Doug, Do you have the GM part #. I have an NOS top shield part # 3730328 still in the box. If it works for you we can deal. If you have a photo I can compare this to it.

Hi Joe. The part # I need is 3741865. I had read in Earlycorvettes / ignition shielding on Google, they show a pdf on page 14-7 & forward, years 57 - 61 shield numbers and minor changes to the skirt cutouts. Looks like a very informative site. Shows the top shape carb vs. F I. Continues with part numbers for all the shielding pieces / bolts. Thanks for the help.

And John D, thanks for being helpful, I still see so many people at your hauler asking questions and you taking the time to answer. You're a big asset to the Corvette lovers, much appreciated.

        Doug

What is this one? It was on a '56 2x4 that once had a FI unit on it, but unsure of the shield application. I think it may have been modified.

Well, that certainly looks like a fuelie top cover, I'm sure of that.

            Tks. Doug

Here is a 57 fuelie top cover, supposed to be the same thru 1960.

That is NOT, repeat, NOT a 57 FI car, nor is the top shield (cover) a 57 shield.
I don't know where that picture sprang up from (it is perfectly fine for you to use it), but that is my 56 Vette with a SB400, disguised to appear as a 57 FI 283 (to the untrained eye). The FI unit was once modified by Bill Thomas (heavily ported out) and is a conglomeration of 57-65 FI parts. So, I had my own unique plenum and fuel meter tags made up. The top shield is a repo I bought AT LEAST 30yrs ago. I think the top shield (repo) more closely resembles a 61-2 shield. The car is further disguised to resemble a 57 579D car with airbox, HD brakes/susp, dogdish caps, 4sp and posi. Although, I did keep the 56 Wonderbar and heater.

Unique fuel meter tag, far right.

Ok, my error. I just saw the fender vents and thought 57, my purpose was to show a picture of the shape of a fuelie top ignition cover.

And, that's a pretty cool car / setup you have there.
