    69 Alternator Terminals

The T1 T2 plastic terminal plug on my alternator is dry rotted, brittle and has broken. That allowed one of the spade connectors to bend and break. The plug and the connector need to be replaced. All I can find is the wires that include the connectors and plastic plug. John Pirkle restored my alternator a couple of years ago and I called him a couple of times but he hasn't returned the calls.

Does anyone have a resource or solution for my problem?

    Thanks in advance - Dennis

I don't know of a current source for the connectors absent the pigtail. They used to be quite common but I suppose they were shunned by automotive service technicians in favor of the pigtails. Most folks are more concerned about functionality and ease of installation rather than originality. Probably the easiest way is to purchase one of the connectors with pigtail, remove the terminals, "un-crimp" the wire from the terminals, re-crimp/solder the existing wires to the terminals, and re-install into the connector.

By the way, your connector is not suffering from dry rot. The connector is a plastic and not subject to dry rot even though it might seem like that. Over time, the plasticizers used in this type of plastic "outgas" and the plastic becomes brittle.

Hi Dave - That would be great, thank you! It would probably be best to send two if you have them just in case I fumble on the first one. I don't think I will with various crimping tools... but I've thought that before about other things!

You provided two links above, one labeled connectors and the other labeled terminals. Both link to the same webpage. Did you intend to include a separate link for the connector? If so, just tell me where to go for that and I will. If not, I will probably buy the pigtail and use the connector.

Either way, thanks so much. I certainly do appreciate you taking time to respond, not to mention offering to mail a couple of terminals. My address is Dennis Wright 4480 Burgess Hill Lane, Alpharetta, GA 30022. Dennis

PS - It is the 10 gauge terminal that I need. BTW, feel free to text me using my cell number below if you like.

Decades ago, literally, I was a journeyman electrician so I have a great set of crimpers. I have a set of the Fry's version, though, and agree about their screw cutting capabilities!!

I will buy the pigtail. Concerning the 12 ga terminals, do you think it will work okay. I'm not disputing it, just asking.

Thanks so much, I do appreciate it. Will be happy to help you. - Dennis

PS - I called Paragon to purchase the pigtail adapter to have the connector. I transferred to technical assistance to be sure I was ordering what I needed. Ken took the initiative to go to their vintage parts bin and offered an original gray connector. It was $10, less than the pigtail and I have original equipment!
