    Schwitzer Fan Clutch

    Question,

Are all Schwitzer fan clutches stamped with a date? if yes, are there multiple locations?

    Thanks

    Re: Schwitzer Fan Clutch

I don't know if ALL of them were stamped but the judging guide says the date was stamped on the outer edge. The original one on my 65 was stamped on the back surface of the mounting flange so it couldn't be seen once it was installed.

I have always had mine date stamped according to what the TIM&JG says.

Think 63/64 were undated, maybe dated by 65? My 64 is undated.

The reason I ask is I came across one sitting in an open GM box. It is very dirty and there are three mounting bolts in the box, one missing. I cleaned it up and can't find a date anywhere.

Have you removed the one on your 65 and checked the back side? It's possible that many of the undated ones were actually stamped on the back like the one for my 65.

Sounds like I came across a 63/64 clutch.

                  Thanks all

                    Harry,
Is there a 2 letter code stamped in ink on the front of your clutch housing? If yes, what is it? According to the '64 Judging Guide it should be "CJ" and the shaft length should be 1 3/4 inches long. This fan is a Schwitzer acceptable on 63 & 64 Corvettes. JG also states that this fan "is not" dated.

                      Ed,

My 1964 convertible built in January of '64 has the original Eaton type fan clutch with "CJ" ink stamped on the front side on the fluid reservoir. Can't recall the exact shaft length.

I wish I had your fan. The one on my 64 L76 is also an Eaton but it is stamped CK, which according to experts, is for a BB. My shaft is not correct for a SB CJ type fan either. If the one Harry "found" is serviceable I am wondering if he is interested in selling it.

Ed, I have photos in a recent post HERE.

And I just measured both shaft lengths(hub face to edge of casting)and they measure apx 1 3/4".

                            Richard,

Thanks but.... that doesn't help me. I need a CJ stamped fan either undated or dated prior to April 64. Harry Sadlock said he found one that looks like a 64 in a box, was hoping that he would respond to my question. That said, your clutch units are definitely nice.
