'65 large keyhole top ignition shield

I was showing a fellow NCRS member my 2nd design L78 shield with the wide access hole for distributor points window access. He wisely said that as all L78's were transistor ignition, there should have been no need. I couldn't give him an answer, so I'm asking the DB for reasons/excuses .

    Wayne,
Just a guess, but maybe the design group did not communicate well with engine engineering and assumed shielding would require access to points not realizing that TI was mandatory on all L78 orders. Or maybe these were in production before the decision was made to go all TI. Or maybe there was possibility of 396/390 with points. Just guessing.
