I have looked at a bunch of 1963 Coupes and noticed that a very small minority have braces on the frame inboard of the kickups. I have been told that no 1963 frames had braces in those locations and it is more than likely a 1964 or 1965 frame. The first picture shows the brace from one car and the link shows the brace to another car. Confused and wondering if someone could clear this up for me please. Thanks.

Re: 1963 Coupe Frames
Sven, I have never seen a 63 with the support plate welded, just 64 is when it started, Are there any sign's of a E/brake bracket welded to transmission cross member, as 64 was a different set-up, I just noted that in your pic the E/ cable going to the rear brakes left and right are not in the spot I normally see them, They are generally side by side on frame rail.New England chapter member, 63 Convert. 327/340- Chapter/Regional/national Top Flight, 72 coupe- chapter and regional Top Flight.- Top

In this case, there's a more-or-less easy way to determine if the frame is original to the car. Just check out the VIN derivative stamped on the frame. You'll find the location and procedure to observe in many posts in the archives.
In fact, for other reasons, any Corvette owner that's not the original owner of their car should check to make sure the VIN derivative on the frame matches the VIN plate. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 1963 Coupe Frames
Thanks to everyone for responding.
Ed. The first pic I have attached here is from the first vehicle and it shows a crappy weld job for the ebrake bracket.... I don't have one showing the transmission cross member. The link is to the second car showing the ebrake bracket and transmission cross. Please let me know what you think. Thanks.

Re: 1963 Coupe Frames
That corner gusset on the frame was not even on the early 64 frames. So there is no way someone could say, well my 63 was very late that is why it has them. It would have to be real late 63 built around Jan 64.- Top
