Captain Lees Spra Strip Discontinued???

Many threads recommend Captain Lees for paint removal on fiberglass. I have been searching for somewhere to purchase it, and everywhere I look it is shown to be discontinued.


If it is truly discontinued, what paint stripper do you recommend?

I tried Capt. Lees many years ago. This product is all I've used for over 30 years. Far superior - http://www.autobodytoolmart.com/klea...4-p-14857.aspx

Have you found it to be very safe on the fiberglass?

Have you used the Klean-Strip product on anything with a hard 2 part primer base? I stripped my hood which had a base coat/clear coat finish and PPG 2 part epoxy primer. Really hard fresh finish. The Capt Lees worked great on the car body, which had about three layers of old finish, but really didn't work at all on the fresh base coat/clear coat and epoxy primer on the hood.


I then tried a Klean-Strip Aircraft stripper (picture attached). Warning: the product picture below is not the fiberglass version in Jim's post above. You don't want to use what I have picture anywhere on you vette fiberglass. If you leave it on to long it will actually start eating the glass.

Don, I've only used it on lacquer and enamel. I never tried it on BC/CC. When stripping factory lacquer, it pretty much stops at the factory primer. It won't do anything to fiberglass. I've stripped and painted several and never had any issue with it. The first car I used it on was my 1960 back in 1985. No problems have presented themselves 30 years later.

Allen,

Used both many moons ago. The aircraft strip works as good if not better than Captain's Lee's. Be cautious and only do a small area at a time such as 1x1 ft or 2x2 ft, but no more. We used it on 1956-7. If left on too long it will soften the the fiberglass.

I've never had that experience even applied to bare fiberglass but maybe the earlier glass was more fragile.
