Found an error in the new 5th Edition TIM&JG 1970-1972

First, let me start by saying that I am very impressed with the 5th edition judging guide. It is a huge improvement over the previous one and the color pictures are amazing. I have only had it a short while but am very happy with what I have read so far.

The error is about the location of the GM/AC Delco sticker on the dual snorkel air cleaner base. Page 96, last paragraph says,

"Cars with the closed-element air cleaner have a red, white and blue decal on that passenger side of the base...."

However, the picture on the next page, Fig. M 4.11a, shows the sticker to the right of the snorkel which means that this is an image of the driver's side. There is another picture on page 89, Fig. M3.1, showing the 350 base-engine left (driver side) valve cover and the sticker is clearly visible. Again, I am not posting this as a complaint, but after I initially read the text I was about to go out to my car with a heat gun to get that stupid sticker off and put it on the correct side!

I would post a picture, but then someone would notice that my valve covers, although correct, are each on the opposite side of where they should be.........but at least my sticker is right!

Yup, I goofed up there. I have corrected the "master".
Thanks for letting us know. Appreciate it.
    What else have we found?

Re: Found an error in the new 5th Edition TIM&JG 1970-1972

          Than you, Thank you.

Actually there have been several items we (I) missed. Some part number with numbers transposed, or a number missinga. A couple of biggee's (is that a word?)
          1. The Canadian Oil Change sticker under the Emission decl on the firewall, is actually the 68-69 version. I have updated the manual with a good picture of the 70-72 decal. Thanks Rick.
          2. We updated the wording for the AIR equipped cars in 1972.
          3. 70, 71, 72 fuse boxes are each unique and have different count of colored fuses. So, I have updated that.

I want to keep the changes and/or updates current, so a few years from now, it won't be such a big job updating again. Kind of a living document, if you will.

Thanks again to everybody for your patience in getting the new manual out and for every-bodies help!

Yes, but think of how many errors we corrected!

Any thoughts to a 5.1, 5.2, etc as printings need to be done over time?

Are the TIM&JG's that are available at the store reflective of the changes noted in this thread?

No. However, the other 673 changes we made are in there.

I have not had a chance to see the new 1970-1972 TIMJG--my 4th edition is very worn with lots of notes--but I would like to thank the ALL those team members and individuals who spent countless hours rewriting it. Manuals like this are labors of love and are priceless. Again Thank You for your time and effort--it is greatly appreciated by those of us who strive for NCRS Top Flight or just want to make our cars better.

Gary, Patrick...a couple of technical questions:

What software was used to format the document? MS Word? Other?

Did you have to convert from a pdf to text?

MS Word (docx) was used. I started with an old version that Terry McManmon provided to me years ago. Those were dated 2006. Those were the Interior, Exterior, Mechanical and Chassis sections. The other sections were done from scratch. Vinnie did the front cover for us. I provided the pictures of the cars, Vinnie did the rest.

Once all the sections were done, they were converted to PDF for team members to review. A combined PDF file (all the sections combined into one file) is being used for publishing.

Some of the sections, Mechanical was one, was too large to email. Pictures add a lots of "bits". Even in PDF format it was too large to mail. So, we used Dropbox to the team members.

Overall, it worked ok. MS Word has it's quirks. Once you lean how to work with them, it was ok. Probably better software packages around, but Word is probably the most available to us. Plus, it was what David Brigham wanted.
