    Window Post spacer

Installing window posts on my '56 that's been apart for many years. There is about a 3/8" space between the post and inner door panel where I've drawn the arrow. I think there should be a stud in the post at that location, but is there also something that should be some type of spacer that I'm missing?

    Thanks, Chuck

    Chuck,
When I did my 59, I had the same issue, but the previous owner(s) had put "U" shaped steel spacers in to get it aligned. I had to do the same to get everything to line up. At least your holes weren't butchered up like mine were before the restoration.

It is a pleasure to see a nice looking door with round holes. A few of the holes in my 59 doors were destroyed and for some unknown reason a couple more large holes added.

I don't have my AIMs handy, Are shims used there? But don't do that until you get the door posts set to the windshield side frame posts. That location is your adjustment for the door post alignment to the windshield posts.

Edit. Just found my AIM pdf, Sec F SHeet 9.00, albeit 1957 AIM. Yes a stud should be there, with toothed washer and nut, but no spacer mentioned. I think when you tighten it up the door inner panel will just pull itself in . Give it a test, but if you see it too stressed, stop and add shims.

According to the AIM, the post angle/in/out adjustment is at the bottom channel adjustment stud.

Thanks for the responses to my problem. I have achieved great alignment of the window posts to the windshield frame by using the bottom channel adjustment stud. I don't believe it's possible to pull the door panel in enough to tighten against the post, so will just use some shims. I was concerned I might be missing a bracket something like the lower adjustment stud and screw.

Chuck, do you have a AIM?

If not you can download a pdf from Russ Uzes site.....

Scroll down a page, he has 2 versions there.

Richard, yes I do have a hard copy of the AIM. I had a link on my shop computer to the PDF copy from Russ Uzes site, but the last time I tried that link it wouldn't work. I just tried it now, and the link worked. The images are much clearer than on some pages in my hard copy, unfortunately the AIM doesn't show that I'm missing anything between the door post and inner door panel.
              Thanks, Chuck
