    70 Center Crossmember Holes

I am doing a frame off restoration on my 70 BB convertible. I have everything removed from the frame and am replacing the bottom half of passenger side center crossmember. It has a serious hole in it that was there when I bought it. Here is a picture of what I cut out:

You can see four small holes in the picture. The driver side has four matching holes. They look to be original, but I am not sure if they should be there or not. Can someone tell me whether to add four holes to the replacement piece or fill in the holes in the drivers side. My car is an early 70 built in early Feb 1970.

    Thanks,
    Allen

Hi Allen, Yes they should be there. I have two very well documented 1970 LT1 Roadsters with M21 four speed transmissions. I also questioned the holes when I was restoring the first car. As I recall from my research the holes were in all frames and were used in earlier 1968 or 1969 automatic cars for attaching splash shields. Someone else may chime in to confirm this. Best, John.

Hi John, Thank you very much for the response. I knew the holes looked original, but they had no use on my car so I was having trouble understanding why they were there.
      Thanks again,
      Allen
