Was COPO option available on any C1 or C2. As I understand the meaning of COPO, it would mean an engine or color or item not available on a dealer order sheet.

Re: COPO Option
COPO stands for Central Office Production Order. Chevrolet dealers would contact the Central Office in Michigan to request deviations from regular production options that were available for the model year. For instance, special color paint could be requested for an additional charge. Generally, options that were requested had to be in current production for other models. Chevrolet engineering then had to grant approval for these vehicle parts combinations and set the price to charge.
These types of orders would eventually become instrumental in laying the groundwork to build factory race cars.
Bottom Line - Actually most COPO cars were fleet orders for rental car, taxi companies, police departments and cars destined for export service.Rick Aleshire

Re: COPO Option
Definitions evolve - "Central Office Production Order" MAY have changed from "Cole Order Protection Override", for example, when Ed ordered the 1956 Styling Prototype Body mounted on the modified '55 #194 frame to create what would ultimately become known as '56 Sebring #1.
"Because it was on the Internet" we should all communicate, in our wills, to our grandchildren and others, that when the above appears in a Corvette history book in 2050 that it is BULL****! But when Chevy went racing, it went at the behest of Ed Cole, NOT ZAD.- Top
