73 differential

Will a 73 differential bolt into a 63 application? Are the housings the same?

Yes all 63-79 are interchangeable. The 73, if original, will have a much better posi case casting, lousy clutches, good 10-17 spiders, and possibly soft faced axles. They are a great core to build.

The 63-some 65's used a tapped front hole in the housing that is weaker. If you make the switch be sure to get a new bolt since 65-79's had through holes. Also the front bracket is much better on the 73 use it over the 63 all day long unless you want it to look correct.

Any 1963-79 will work. If you're not concerned about "dates" and "numbers" you should have a relatively easy time finding one for $250. Some guys think they're worth a lot more than this. They're not. A lot of Corvettes have gone to "Corvette heaven" and left their differential behind. My guess is that there are a whole lot more Corvette differentials around than there are cars needing them.
