    tachometer wiring

I am trying to temporarily hook up an aftermarket Tachometer. it has 4 wires - black, red, yellow, Green. Any thoughts - I think the Black & Red are power for the tach. If the plug is different than I expected I am done.!

Did you contact the tach maker help line?

        Hi Marty,

What is the manufacturer and part number of the tach? Did you try a Google search for a hook-up diagram?

Thanks for the thoughts. Unfortunately I have no info about either tach. I guess I will go to NAPA and buy another cheap one, with instructions.

            Re: tachometer wiring

I think Philip has it right. A little research showed that the green is commonly the coil lead. The black is commonly ground. If you try your yellow lead with a 12 volt source, and the black lead to the negative terminal of your source, and the tachometer lights up, then that leaves the red as a power lead. Good luck.
