Re: 1972 Ontario Orange - Lacquer Paint
Hi David. I have a 73 coupe that I purchased new. It now has 26xxx miles and has almost no spider cracks anywhere on the body and it is THE product applied at ST Louis. Using your car as you described ,it is my opinion that your paint will last a long time. Again in my opinion , many lacquer repaints had way more coats applied than the factory applied. This extra paint created problems on certain parts of the body. Less paint is a plus with lacquer on fiberglass as I have experienced. Hope this helps. Curt- Top

From my experience The "spider" cracking is a product of heat cycles and body flex and is mostly in the gel coat part of the fiber glass. The gel coat cracks and so goes the paint. If the car is not driven much it may take years to show. Next time (if there is ) a descent or better body man (your self included) can address the areas of "stress" cracking which should stop most future problems. Mr. Stucky's good fortune is that older " illegal " lacquer paints are "flexible" compared to EPA compliant water borne paints in use today.- Top
