By the way, while the GM #3933819 was used for 1968-74 Corvettes, it is also SERVICE for 1963-67.

Joe, do you have any idea which Corvette tire lock bolt would be have an overall length of 8.75” and a thread length of 4 3/16”? I have a used bolt with those dimensions and it doesn't match anything in my research notes.

Assuming it's actually a Corvette bolt, I believe it's the 1978-82 bolt, GM #471903. This bolt is longer to accommodate the 255-60-15 tires optionally available for these years and it has a longer thread length to allow more adjustability when used with the 225-70-15 standard tires. I have NOS examples of this bolt but I really can't get at one right now to confirm.

I have an NOS example of a GM #471903 and the overall length is 8.75", but the thread length is 5 3/16".

Could the used bolt I have with the 4 3/16" thread length be a non-Corvette part?

The only other application for the spare tire lock that I am aware of is Corvair, however I do not know what year(s) it would apply to.

It's not a Corvair bolt, as I know the 2 or 3 bolts used on Conviar, which was a.completely different style of bolt.

In light of a "one bolt services all" here is an original 3841464 used on a Mar64 car. May help to assume which spec's are
original. And some info from Sep 74 Parts Cat

The only other 1968-82 Corvette bolt is the GM #345476 used from 1975-77. I believe this bolt is longer than the 3933819 but I thought the thread length was about the same. Once again, I have NOS examples of this bolt but I really can't get at them to confirm.

The only other Corvette latch bolts were the GM #3841464 used for most 1963-67 and the GM #3872959 used for 1965-67 with goldline tires. The 3841464 was replaced by the 3933819 so I would think its dimensions were similar. The 3872959 I have no information on.

It looks like the threaded length on your bolt is less than 3.0", so clearly not the same as the one in my photo.

The only one I could see it being is the 78-82 GM #471903, albeit with a shorter thread length. It's possible the specs on that bolt changed at some time without a change of part number.

The mystery bolt and the NOS example of 471903 that I have are the same total length. Just the ratio of threaded to unthreaded lengths is different. I can't think of any alternative to an undocumented change, as you suggest.
