    '66 Front Parking Brake Cable

I need to replace the front parking brake cable on my April 66 coupe. The current cable has rubber boots at each end yet, every vendor I've checked doesn't show new cables with the boots. Anyone know where to buy one with the boots installed? I have no reason to believe my current one is not original.

    Thanks all.

Ed, I recently restored a '66 and the front cable from the handbrake rod to the undercar lever had a rubber boot at each end. I got the set from Zip Corvette, but I just checked and I think something changed. No more rubber boots on the front cable for some reason.

When completed it looked like this....

The 1966 front parking brake cable, GM #3842936 which is also the original part number, is still available from GM. I don't think the currently available cable (and the one available for many years) has rubber boots.

        Ed,

Not too many years ago Inline Tube was the only company making late-C2 rear parking brake cables with the correct rubber boots. You might call them and ask about the front cable. Their website is: http://www.inlinetube.com/parking-brake-cables

            Ed,

The originals from GM do not have the rubber on the ends but Bair's has them 1 800 421-9644 under part number 4606 for approx, $42.00 plus shipping or pick up one at the NCRS Regional in Florida and save the shipping.

                1965 Boots - 1.jpg
Here's a comparison of the 1965 original front cable, showing longer boots. The repro is probably the same as Bair's mentioned above. I got the reproduction version from Paragon as PN 5740. The cable housing is slightly smaller in diameter, and the crimped on end sleeves are not spiraled on like the old one. The 1965 TIM&JG says just a little bit about this cable and the nylon pulley / wheel.

A pulley axis bolt (grade 5) came with the cable. It had a "NY" headmark. The original bolt didn't have that, nor was it grade 5.
