COKER Radial / OE LOOK Firestore wide oval

Coker tire just started advertising in Hemmings a new Firestone wide oval tire that looks like the original BUT is constructed using modern radial technology. Is that going to judge with a major point deduct like a modern radial on a '67 ? Or will it judge like Cokers original looking repro tires? I like the radial performance ride and handling BUT want the original look and points
These are brand new tires so we might as well address the question by national quality judges now.
    THANKS,
    Bob

    Bob,

I don't believe the Firestone wide oval was offered in 67. It was either a Firestone Deluxe Champion or the redline was the Firestone Super Sports according to the judging manual. Look at the Standard Deduction Guidlines for how many points you'll lose.

Mustang S code GTs for 1967 had Firestone nylon wide ovals, F-70 14s, WW, standard. Corvettes were different.

Yup, no 1967 Corvette ever originally used a Firestone Wide Oval tire. 1968 was the first year for the use of these tires on a Corvette. However, the current Coker Firestone Wide Oval F-70-15 is not a reproduction of the Corvette tire.

MY BAD, correct there were no wide ovals in 67, but that is not my point. A tire is soon hitting the market that is a radial construction, BUT it looks like a OE Wide Oval My '67 Super sport red line can't be far behind. Will the point deduct be like a current repro Firestone Super Sport or the much larger deduct because it IS A RADIAL but looks like the repro we have now. 3 points repro vs 11 radial is a difference.

            Bob,

It will be a much larger deduct because it's a radial and it's a wide oval which was never offered.

If the pictures are to be believed, they appear to have a similar tread to original. As such, it may be much less obvious than many think.

I've seen these and have thought about them for my own 72, as the BFG Radial TAs are now 17 years old or more.

Those 20 year old BFG T/S's might not be so good over 20 mph Nothing will improve your car as much as a new set of tires especially a good set of radials Enjoy

The car spends the vast majority of its time in storage, so I'm not too worried at this point. Unfortunately $1000 tires for this car might not be that great of an investment, but they sure would look cool and ride well for the nominal miles they'd get.
