    Re: The Nascar Units

    Hi Dino,

Terry Michaelis owns two of these cars. Chech his website at Pro Team. Posted history is here. It is on going.

This Daytona Beach NASCAR 1953 Corvette Convertible, VIN #E53F001211, Chevrolet Engineering #3950, Race #27This is the earliest known Corvette to run NASCAR's sanctioned events... and maybe the earliest Corvette (VIN) to ever race thus "A Pioneer of Speed". Credit must be given to Loren Lundberg for without his help the true identity of VIN #211 could have been lost forever and Gray Tuttle of Clinton, NC who bought #211 from NASCAR/Jack Hawkins in 1958 and was extremely helpful in identifying the "bones". Others who participated in #211's history are: John Hutchins, Noland Adams, Dave Bartush, David Burroughs, Tim Jones, Chocalote Myers, Chevrolet archives, and the Daytona Beach NASCAR archives. Invited to be part of the "Competition Corvette" display at the Corvette Nationals show on November 17th and 18th, 2012 and recently invited to the 2014 Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance that takes place on March 9th, 2014. An historically important car that we body-off restored in 2013/2014 as built by Chevrolet Engineering for NASCAR sportscar activities. Go to: tmichaelis.com/CE-cars-that-saved-Corvette/#1 to read about the CE cars that saved the Corvette. Information Wanted: Proteam-Corvette.com/cars/1111B-Info.htm. Email: terry@proteamcorvette.com

      Re: The Nascar Units

I certainly hope that the source of the "Jalopy Journal" is Terry Michaelis, inasmuch as all of the photos in the article are apparently taken from his informational booklet on '53 #211, but without credit. Mr. Yunick's contact with '53 #211 and '55 #1399 would have been incidental, with the cars delivered in Florida as built by Engineering. At one time, #211 may have been equipped with Eng. 3950's body but as delivered in Florida, it carried a 1955 body as it does today. For less confusion, it should not be labeled as Eng. #3950. The source of the '55 body may well have been one of the two late '55 3spd cars ordered to provide the chassis for what would appear as Sebring #5 and #6 in the 1956 12 Hour Race.
