On this day in 1962, a brand-new Corvette rolled off the assembly line at the Corvette Assembly Plant in St. Louis, Missouri. It was number 6,768 out of 14,531 Corvette built that model year. Painted the unusual Fawn Beige color, and was nicely equipped with the 300-horsepower 327 V8, the optional 4-speed transmission, and both folding soft top and removable hardtop. It was shipped later that month to Washington Motors, the Chevrolet dealer in Abingdon, Virginia. Three owners and only 62,000 miles later, it ended up in my garage where it enjoys a retired life of pampered care, premium fuel and regular exercise - not unlike its owner. Life is good - and it's better in a Corvette. Happy Birthday to a truly great car.
