Early 68 underside hood paint ?

I'am helping a friend with a early 68 (Oct) built car. we aren't sure how the underside of the hood should be painted. (1) all body color (2) perimeter body color center black or (3) perimeter body color center unpainted raw fiberglass? Any photos would help.

    Thanks Bob

I'm not sure if this partial hood image will help (it comes from the Revs Digital Library). According to the citation, it's dated 1967 and listed as '1968 Corvette Track Test'. This may be a pilot vehicle... I honestly can't be certain. Here is the enlarged image: CLICK HERE

The hood in the "enlarged image" is correct. The black was a very low gloss black but not a flat black.

Jack & Joe Thanks it looks as if the entire hood is painted a low gloss black.

That enlarged image looks like the black out goes all the way to the edge of the hood. If that is the case it was a change from later production.

We know early 1968 had the black out different on the front of the doors, so there may have been other differences as well. It would be best, however, to hear from others with original early PRODUCTION 1968s.

Front bottom edge no paint same as mid year.
Hood was on for paint application both body color and black out from original observation.
In fact the black out on lower front area is poor at best.
Source is my Nov 67 build.

              Gene,
But what about the black out going all the way to the hood edge?

Indeed, later production '68 hood images do show the edge as body colored... exactly why I mentioned the possibility of a pilot vehicle.
A paint change seems to have occurred... exactly when, you need to poll more info from members with early/original examples.

The International blue stops at the 90* inside corner similar to mid years. Difference is it runs straight up the top rear lip following an imaginary extension line. Body color "fans out" as it nears the hood hinges at the other end. The back edge is all black out (top with hood open). There does not seem to be a defined line between black out and body color on the small lip of hood (seam between outer hood and inner structure). Could be due to hand wear on hood.

Sorry for delayed reply as we were in Florida.

OK, I think I have it; but that is different than what that earlier picture looks like -- although the picture is not as focused on those details as we might want it to be. Any chance for a picture when you get back home?

                    Enjoy Florida.
