I got an AC Delco ignition switch from my FLAPS for my '72. Before I tried to snake it through the column I tried to plug the new one into the old one. It didn't fit at all. Also, the wires are not the same color, not sure if that matters.

Attached are pics of the box and the connectors. Sorry if the pics are blurry, I'll get better ones if it helps. Any help will help. Thanks!!

Re: '72 Ignition switch part number
Tom------
First off, the part number on the box is NOT the part number for an ignition switch. It's the part number for a turn signal switch. This turn signal switch is the AC Delco switch which is applicable to your car IF you DO NOT have a tilt/tele wheel. For a tilt/tele wheel a different switch is required and that switch is GM-discontinued. I believe an aftermarket switch is available for that application, though. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: '72 Ignition switch part number
My mistake, i did intend to have a turn signal switch, not an ignition switch. I do not have Tilt/Tele so I guess I have the correct switch.
The plug from the new switch does not fit into the harness plug, not sure why. The second pic shows how the 4 pins on the right do not line up at all. Aside from the difference in wire color can I just clip the wires on both, splice and solder each wire (Insulate of course) and use the original plug?- Top
