Page 259 of the CTIMJ Guide refers to a Ratio tag for the '62 Corvette. It is supposed to be secured under a lower side cover bolt on the '62 4-speed transmissions. I have spoken to many people including transmission rebuilders but non seem to aware of such a tag. Any info would be appreciated.

This is a very early 63 but the tag is a 62 leftover.Attached Files

Re: Borg Warner T10 Ratio Tag
Have owned '62 #13078 (6-22-62 build date) since April 1965 and photo is of the original factor-installed BW T-10 close ratio trans which came with the 340hp engine.
The metal tag is reverse stamped CC which according to Corvette literature represents a "close ratio" transmission.

My guess is that rebuilders you have talked with are too young, and the trannies too old. Almost every first-time rebuild included the loss of the tag. Later 60's and early 70's had tags with a 7 digit part number and two letter code. Many of those are reproduced--the 62's are not, but they were factory-installed on all 62 4-speeds.- Top

Re: Borg Warner T10 Ratio Tag
That little metallic tag is far more important than just identifying ratios. Those 2 letters identify what parts are used to make up that particular transmission assembly. A transmission & extension assembly chart dated 3-21-62 lists 15 different 2 letter combinations and that is not all inclusive. The chart information lists the internal gears by part number and the 3 shift levers and speedometer drive gear required. If lost, not replaced or unknown makes it difficult to rebuild using all the correct parts.
Incidentally, the C C metallic tag was attached to transmission assembly part # 3817367 revised drawing date 11-3-61- Top

Re: Borg Warner T10 Ratio Tag
Gentlemen,
That is all good information! I bought my 62 Fuelie from the original owner and friend for the last 42 years. Although he said the transmission hadn't been worked on, there was no ratio tag. I had it completely rebuilt due to it coming out of 2nd gear during deceleration and 55 years of wear. I now have all the info stamped on the housing and gear ratios (he hand-counted the teeth). It is a 2.20/1.66/1.31/1.0 T10-1C. The letters/ numbers G 26 61 B are stamped on the side. I presume this means August 26 1961. Any help decoding this would be appreciated. Also, I would like to replace the tag but as mentioned, they are not available. Any ideas about replacement?
Thanks for all the help, I am printing the thread and keeping it as part of my records.

Re: Borg Warner T10 Ratio Tag
I called LIC but they do not carry the correct tag for the 62 Corvette. They referred me to two other places, neither of whom have seen one in years. Was at NCRS Nationals last week and the missing tag was not noted.
Thanks for your interest and help Don- Top
