    1964 Shifter

The attached picture is from a 1964 Corvette and I'm curious if this shifter is original?
The entire shifter seems longer than normal and has a sleeve as part of the "T" handle that runs up to the shifter ball on the backside of the shifter.
    Again, is this original?
Looking for your thoughts on this?
    Thanks in advance!!

The chrome looks very good on the entire shifter - probably too good. It may be original and may have been re-chromed. I can tell you that on my original 64, the chrome around the reverse lock out T handle is worn off from constant rubbing or contact with fingers.

      Dean------

I believe the 1964-67 shifter had a "full round" section above the "T" handle. This shifter has the style used from 1968-81. So, I expect this is a 1968-81 shifter. I just don't recall if the shifter lever for the 68+ shifter was shorter or longer than 64-67.

I can see no reason that a 1968+ shifter would not work on a 1964-67. I think the shifter lever and lockout are the only difference.

Joe, Is correct that is NOT a 64 shifter, looks like its out of a latter corvette. And if it's a early 64 the shifter is again different.

            Too tall for 64-67.

Enclosed is a drawing of an early 64 shifter lever from TSB DR #691. The top of the late 64-67 lever is different.
