69 half shafts

What color should half shafts be? if you could paint them what paint should you use?

For small block 1969 cars, the half shafts were a natural steel finish. However, they were not "shiny steel", even from day-one. This finish is very hard to describe and virtually impossible to duplicate. I do not know of any paint that even comes close.

For big block 1969's, things are different and much easier. Big block half shafts were shot-peened. So, to exactly replicate the finish, all one needs to do is to have the shafts re-shot-peened with very small shot size.

So, as it turns out, for small block cars it's VERY difficult and for big block cars it's VERY easy.
