    Re: Brake pads revisited

I have used Bendix by Honeywell on my 1968 and 1970. On the box it states O.E. Formulated Brake Pads Abestos Free. MGF#D8 and SKU#18810615. MADE IN USA. It has been a few years since I last bought any. Box says Premium friction formula provides -Consistent braking-Shorter stopping distance. Reduces brake dust, improving wheel appearance.

      Jim,

A google search shows that the Bendix D8 pads are a ceramic compound.

        Re: Brake pads revisited

Sooo, after 2 pages of posts, which pads are best pads for occasionally driven no racing Corvettes in regard to low brake dust and low rotor wear?
        Thanks

          William,

Since AC Delco does not have organic pads to the best of my knowledge, and given that I've just bought a set of 17D8 pads and a set of 14D8 pads, and returned both sets, if I were forced to choose among AC Delco offerings, I'd opt for the 17D8 pads since that's the Professional series and not the cheaper Advantage series. I assume the Advantage series is cheaper for a reason, and the Pro series is not going to break the bank.

            William, ceramic by far.

              Re: Brake pads revisited

So after a little more than a year since the last post to this thread, has anyone had any experience with the AC Delco 14D8 or 17D8 brake pads on a C2 Corvette with power brakes?

Any issue with excessive brake dust, grinding noise when the brakes are applied, etc. I need to replace the brake pads on my '65 that has power brakes.

              Thanks,

              James

                All------

Raybestos PGD8 are supposed to have a premium ORGANIC friction material. Whether they actually do, I do not know. I have not purchased any.

                  Re: Brake pads revisited

Did a search on brake pads for my 65 since I haven't changed them in about 30 years. This old thread popped up. The more I read through this the more confusing it became.

So, I'm about to order the AC/Delco 17D8 GM# 18028641 from the Amazon link in this thread. Looks like they are all ceramic/mixed materials and not old style organic, but work just as well? Anyone using these that is pleased with them?

I have them on my 72 but they are indeed marked as other than organic. Fyi, last fall I was at a a cruise and there was an AC Delco table set up. I talked to the fellows there and they insisted that the current 17D8s were orgqnic. I took them to this thread where Not One person was able to find non-ceramic 17D8s .

Thanks Gary. Looks like they will be fine. I'll just order them. I guess I'll pretend they're organic when I drive and I will feel all warm and fuzzy.

They said that, to the best of their knowledge, they were organic. They didn't have a set with them and I failed to follow up. Oth, when mine came in, as per the discussion in the beginning of the thread, they were listed as organic iirc even though they weren't. . I think others had similar issues with being sold as organic but containing non-organic pads

Has anyone tried these pads sold on Amazon for under $37?

Raybestos PGD8 Professional Grade Organic Disc Brake Pad Set

They notes the OEM were organic, and that the pads they sell for a given application as based on the OEM material.

                                Re: Brake pads revisited

This thread is very long and somewhat convoluted, but if I understand correctly the 17D8 kit includes shims and a tube of brake paste, and the 14D8 is just the pads. My conclusion from both this and the photos is that the actual pads are the same with the same friction material, and the only difference is the shims/paste or lack thereof.

                                Anyone else?
