What should be the fast and normal idle speed on 1963 FI? Thanks in advance.

Re: 1963 FI idle speed
The 1963 Corvette Shop Manual recommends a fast idle speed of 2000, hot, for L-84 and how to set it, and that should yield an initial cold fast idle of about 1750. A specific hot idle speed is not actually listed. Some may think that the speed recommended for setting initial timing, which is often the start of the centrifugal spark advance curve is the recommended idle speed, but I doubt if you can get a '63 L-84 to idle acceptably at 700 or less, and maybe not even long enough to set the timing before the engine stalls. That's why I recommend setting total WOT advance at a few hundred revs above the maximum centrifugal point. My recommended idle speed for any engine (in neutral with a manual trans and in Drive for an automatic both with the AC compressor engaged, if equipped) is "as low as possible commensurate with acceptable idle quality". This is subjective and may vary from owner to owner, but for a '63 L-84 with an OE-equivalent Duntov cam I would peg it somewhere in the range of 800-900. Duke- Top
