I have removed the springs form the 57 and the binding straps are painted black (along with dirt & grease). They seem to be the original straps and clamps. When I finish putting these back together I want to do it the correct way. Logic says that if they were blacked out with the straps in place they should be black paint all around except maybe on the top where the crimp is in place. Any body have an answer. Car was assembled 9/6/1957 and springs are numbered 3751438.

Re: 1957 Paint on the binding straps
Scott, Is that black anodizing a '56/'57 only process? I'm more familiar with the '58 up cars and those always appeared shiny stainless steel to me when I take them apart.

Re: 1957 Paint on the binding straps
Does that mean we should find no paint on the rubber or the binding clip? I have paint on rubber, Strap, and clip. I cannot tell if any of it has ever been repainted.- Top

Re: 1957 Paint on the binding straps
Scott, I see what you were saying now. I was a tad confused.
Carl, To the best of my knowledge the stainless bands, rubber insulators and clamps were not painted and were installed onto the spring assemblies after they were painted. IMO someone in the past painted those springs and did not mask the rubber, bands, or clamps. I have restored many original springs on 1956 to 1962 cars removed for the first time from their frames, and this is how I observed them to be. However I could be definitively incorrect.
