    53-61. Yet another jack thread

I have a 54 Corvette that came without a jack or jack handle (lug wrench). Very few pop up for sale and when they do the seller's are asking downhill of $1,000 for them. Corvette Central sells a repro they claim is an exact reproduction of both. Since the points are just about zero on these compared to the cost of an original should I search out an original or go ahead and buy one for 1/4 the price from CC? I want the car to be as original as possible but I feel like drawing the line on this.

    Thanks.

I believe that this is a personal decision that you have to make. The economics weigh in favor of the CC product; however, if you are a stickler on originality you may want to look more. An add in the Driveline wanted section might help. Not to get your hopes up; but I was at a GMCA swap at the Minnesota fairgrounds two years ago and saw a friend of mine pick one up for $25.00. He ended up giving it to his father for Father's day. His father has a 58 Corvette.

Does Central actually have them, or do they advertise them? It's been reported that the repros aren't being made anymore. I haven't verified that. Any input on that?

I bought one a few years ago from CC. I recently saw them about a month ago on the website. "Correct Reproduction"

Thanks, Al. But that doesn't answer my question. Does Central, or anyone else, actually have them. In stock. For sale.?

            Mike,

The best reproduction used to be by Gene Smith in northeastern Oklahoma. You can check with Pete Sawatsky (918) 968-2366 a fellow NCRS member and he'd know or might have one.

Mike Ernst, I just ordered one from Carol at Grossmueller's this afternoon. Same one's CC sell's. She has them.

              Thanks for the input.

Just as an additional comment-----------------------and I've mentioned this before.
The early 50s Chevy 1/2ton pickups used this same jack. So, If you spot some old Chevy pickup out in a field, it might be worth checking to see if it has a hidden jack.
                  I bought mine for $10.
