Black paint finish on YJ8 wheels - semi gloss, satin, or flat?

I've acquired a set of first design Kelsey Hayes YJ8 aluminum wheels (#363768) for which I need to repaint the black out center hub area. Existing finish looks to be semi gloss but they have likely been repainted in the past.

Does anyone know what is the original finish on the black paint -- was it semi gloss, satin, or flat black?

I don't know if it indicates this in the 1975-77 judging guide (I have the 73-74).

    Thanks much.

    They are semi-gloss.

I bet there's only 2-3 people here who have ever seen an original 363768 wheel (I'm not one of them) and I'm not sure the paint gloss would necessarily be the same as the later wheels.

These are the 'first design' K-H wheels offered in 1976, not the original 1973 American Racing mags. I had understood these were fairly common.

I have a set of five 73 wheels one is NOS.I need the lug nuts as they are smaller with a black center.

Yes you're right. The term first design and the fact that you've a '73 threw me off. The '73 wheels were 329381.

Hi Lyle, can you tell me what is the finish on your original wheels' blackout area? Is it flat, satin or semi-gloss? Thanks.

                Hi Lyle,
Is it true that the lug nuts used for the original AR wheels that you are seeking are specific to those wheels and are not interchangeable with the KH wheels?
Also, would you or anyone else know for sure if what I read somewhere that supposedly three of the four wheels on Zora's '74 in the NCM are indeed from the original four sets?
                Thanks,

                  Jimmy,

                  The lugnuts are not interchangeable.

There were hundreds of sets of wheels made, not just four. Almost all were sent back to GM under a recall, some did not. Every now and then an individual wheel or a set pops up. There were two wheels for sale on eBay in Feb.

The lug nuts have black centers and are smaller a 76 lug nut will not fit in the hole on a 73 rim. Zora's car in the NCM has some 73 rims but I never checked them all.my 73 in the body drop is just down the hall.

One more ask for input on my original question -- were these wheels painted black semi-gloss or satin?
                      Thanks.
