    1966 1967 C2 jack help

    Hello everyone,

I'm looking for a source for the small solid pin on my jack. It's the small pin that goes through the jack screw at 90-degees to the screw at the end near the nut. (See the photo attahed) I prefer not to use a split pin and sure hope someone knows of a source for this pin.

The pin appears to have 2 or 3 ridges down its length cause the pin to be a friction fit.

Thanking you for any help I receive.

    Kurt,

You can probably find the correct pin on a Corvair jack that is made by the same vendor (AUSCO) stamped with the capitol letter "A". Corvair jacks were also made by RH INC.

Go to Ace, Home Depot, etc and buy some steel rod of the correct diameter. Then you can cut a bazillion of them to length.

I've done this with my C1 jacks and need to do it for the 63 jack I'm refinishing now. Both end of the pin are broken off.

First thing I'll check is to see if the pins are the same diameter as the left over rod I have from doing the C1's.

I measured the C1 pin and found that it was much thicker stock than the C2 pin. 0.150" vs. 0.112". This explains why the C2 pins are often found to be broken off. They are too thin for the application IMHO.

Since my C2 jack needed a pin I looked to see if any of my round rod stock was the correct diameter. No dice. So I made a pin using a nail as a material source.

Ground the nail on a bench grinder and finished it off with sand paper. I tapered the nail so it would be a press fit in the hole. Cut it to length and installed pin. Total time less than 15 minutes.

These are called grooved dowel pins. Many sizes are available from sources like McMaster-Carr and Grainger. However, you can't get them on a per each basis.

            Kurt,
Do you know the dimensions of the pin? Oops I see Troy measured .112".
            Kind regards.
