    Non DOT Tire Date Codes

How do you decipher the date codes on original NON - DOT tires? See attached pic of my original 64 General Jet-Air tire. Same question for DOT tires.

    Thanks,

Re: Non DOT Tire Date Codes

I am resurrecting this old thread as I have been searching around this morning on tire date codes. I am not having much success researching, so I thought I'd just fire this one out there. Attached is a pic of the spare from a 65 I have in my shop. Considering I see 2 different "5"'s in the code, may I be safe to assume this could be the original spare?

If someone has something more definitive than an assumption, please enlighten me! In advance, thanks for the consideration.
    Tim

The only date codes that has been deciphered for the 60s have been Goodyear to my knowledge.

          That is correct.

Years ago I had a (Non-DOT) NOS Goodyear 6.70-15 All weather "42" 3-T 4 Ply Rating - 2 Ply tube type tire with the code "MTOSH88". Also on the tire was "212658-2N". I bought the tire at Fall Carlisle in 1992.

Back in those same days I also bought a 7.75-15 GOODYEAR ALL WEATHER iV Nylon Cord 4 Ply Tubeless white wall tire DOT tire with the code "CCNHJYK9" which I use as my spare tire in my 1966 Corvette because it actually fits properly in the tire tub.

Prior to the FMVSS that required DOT standard format manufacturing data embedded in sidewalls, manufacturers used their own proprietary systems. At this point it may be a lost cause to decode any other brands because anyone who remembers and understands is probably deceased.

I got the Goodyear codes from a Goodyear employee back in the dark ages, when I was National Team Leader. He asked me to keep them confidential. I kept them close until he passed. We put them in the TIM&JGs after his passing. Thus the passing of those workers is a two-edged event.

I understand the Mustang folks also had access to some of those codes. I know nothing of that. Maybe the web nannies will post that as M******.

I gained access to the Goodyear codes thru another source..........maybe 15 years ago. Can't remember all of the details now, but the info was posted to the internet and I discovered it doing some searches one night. I then confirmed this info later with one of the C2 Team Leaders.

                  FWIW.

FYI - The '68-'69 6th Edition TIMJG pages 101 thru 104 have detailed discussions and guides on the Goodyear tire date codes and the 4 systems used for various years.
                    thx,

I guess I should have quantified "the dark ages." I was NTL in the mid to late 1990s. I can't remember when I started, but I remember giving it up in 1999. I hate to do the math on those sorts of things. It makes me feel too old, or at least older than I want to be. I'll check the NCRS Memorial board and see if I can find when my source passed, but it may have been before the board began.

Is there a source that I can access to get the Goodyear tire date code information for 1965?

                        Thanks,

I will provide them to KC, if he wants to let that cat out of the bag. I am not happy with what has happened to the judging of the chrome bumper C3s, as I said in an earlier post, so I will leave that information release up to the Team Leader(s). If you want tire(s) de-coded I will be pleased to do that, but talk to KC about the entire code cards. I will be in communication with him in a couple of weeks (Team Leaders annual meeting), so it is your time now.

Why are these types of resources kept secretive and only shared among a few?

                              Terry,

Thank you for the offer. I went out and looked at my original gold line spare for my '65 and realized it is a Firestone and not a Goodyear tire so so much for finding out what the date is.

                              Happy New Year!
