    C2 U-Joints

I am replacing drive shaft & half shaft U-Joints on my 64 (manual transmission). In numerous threads in this forum members have recommended "Federal Mogul / Precision" brand U joints (non-greaseable type), part #s 231 (half shafts) & 269 (driveshaft) for my application. Several members have stated that they got their U joints from Summit Racing.

I checked Summit - they carry a number of different brands, including MOOG - but I could not find any U joints made by Federal Mogul / Precision. However, Summit does have MOOG U joints with 231 & 269 part numbers.

I don't think this is coincidence. So, I am asking anyone that might know - does Federal Mogul market their U joints under the name of MOOG? Is this what I am looking for - MOOG 231 & 269 U joints?

    Thanks for your assistance.

Moog is, indeed, a Federal-Mogul brand. As Federal-Mogul has acquired different brands over the years, they have shifted certain parts from one brand to another. However, I fully expect that the parts are the same. Of course, Federal-Mogul is a company with world-wide operations. So, in addition to shifting products among brands, they may also shift the manufacturing source of the parts.

As I have mentioned before Volunteer Vette at 1 856 521-9100 supplies U-joints with and without grease fittings. Without is SU61D.
List Price is $31.00 each but will probably give a discount if you mention the NCRS.

        Joe,
Thanks for verifying - I should have did a search for Federal Mogul, I did find that they are a global company and they do market through MOOG. Regarding "global" - this made in USA vs overseas is making my head hurt. I definitely prefer USA but, when you think about it, I am sure Federal Mogul has a good quality assurance / quality control program. Even if the U joints I am looking for - partially because they closely but not perfectly match OEM U joints - are made overseas, I don't see many other options. Thanks again for the info.

$31 each. WOW. That's over twice what the Moog Super Strength u-joints cost and you'll get free shipping with Summit.

The Dana Spicer non-greasable u-joint is my personal favorite and the last time I checked still made in the USA. Pretty darn inexpensive, as well.

Dennys Driveshaft Corvette C2 C3 C4 u-joints for driveshafts and half shafts 53 to 96 Chevrolet Corvette 1310, 1330 and 1350 series universal joints to restore your Corvette. Greaseable, non greaseable maintenance free high mileage solid body Spicer for Racing or street car applications.

                Thanks Leif,

Lot of good recommendations and all good options. I have been told that Spicer's are by far the most durable and can take a lot of punishment. Actually, they exceed my requirements - I do want a good quality U joint but I don't anticipate thrashing it with a lot of HP & torque. All that said, I opted for Federal Moguls that have also been recommended by members in previous threads. They are now sold under the name of MOOG but I have confirmed that they are made in the USA (or at least they are stamped USA). Price is good too. And, they are about the closest you can get, appearance wise, to originals that are no longer available. Thanks again to all that provided advice.

For what it's worth, I use and have installed many of the spicer solids. The price on the link above is a good one. The only ones we had fail out of 100's were on my son's 75 st/strip coupe. He dead hooked and sheared both inner & outer Spicer solids.

one should get the opinion of our esteemed past judging chairman, dipstick clark, for his preferred u-joints. mike

In my opinion, the Spicer u-joints are the best. However, their configuration is unlike the originals. I believe these are manufactured of forged powder metal. This is a very strong material also used a lot nowadays for engine connecting rods.
