    Fan clutch 68 BB

Would the fan clutch for a 68 L71 be the same as for a 67 L71?

No, the original fan clutches were different. In later years, one of the 1968 fan clutches became SERVICE for 1967.

      Thanks Joe

I need a new one for my 68. It's a fairly original and I'd like to try to keep it close. I'm not into judging, but the next guy might be :-). Anyway I'm happy with the K&B clutch I bought for my 66 SB. I'm thinking of buying the K&B for the 68 but I believe they say it's for a 67. I'll check with them tomorrow.

I recall a discussion on this topic before where you had some recommendations for fan clutches that are available now.

The 1968 L-71 fan clutch was GM #3916141 although some later build cars might have used the 3937771. The 3916141 was the last available fan clutch from GM but it's discontinued now. Reproductions and NOS are available, although later NOS are configured slightly different than originals.

            Rich:

There are 2-3 guys who do quality rebuilds of these fan clutches. They often advertise in the Driveline. I would call each of them and inquire if they have an original rebuilt 1968 unit for your car.

A second alternative is to buy a used one (Driveline, Ebay, David S.) and then have it rebuilt. Kirkconnell Corvettes may be the best rebuilder, but I have heard mainly good things about all the rebuilders. I am running a rebuilt 1967 unit myself.
