    Carpet Glue Removal

The interior is gutted and I'm prepping things before I send the body out for prep, prime and paint. I've spent the last day and a half soaking and scraping the old glue (original plus that I put down 9 years when I replaced the carpet). I've used lacquer thinner for most of it and xylene for the more stubborn stuff. My struggle is on the vertical and near vertical surfaces. I've soaked shop towels in lacquer thinner or xylene, placed in on those surfaces (forward foot well, trans tunnel, etc.) and let it sit until the towels are dry. It just doesn't work well. It's been good on horizontal surfaces just not vertical.

Can anyone suggest a gel type solvent that I could brush on and let sit for awhile? I feel that might work best. Other suggestions would be appreciated.

    Thanks

There is some spray on Goo Gone type materials that work pretty well combined with scotch brite scrubbing, a lot less toxic than thinner. SEM spray on urethane bumper stripper goes on in a gel and should cut the glue and any paint also. Dont let it dry, scrub it off while still moist.

I agree with Stephen on the #M General Purpose Adhesive Remover, that's all I've ever used. It has gotten kind of pricey of the last few years.

Peter, If you are ambidextrous, either one! A new chisel used as a scraper does work very well, without the fumes

and mess, but everyone has their own way.
