    1961 carpet

Does the carpet on a 1961 just go up to the kick panel or does the carpet go under so the kick panel rest on top of it ? Thank You Fred

Fred, I think you mean Sill Plate.

The carpet goes under it, but just to the edge of the wood filler.

        Rich Mozzetta on 1961 carpet

Hi Rich I was referring to the carpet going up to or under the kick panel. The kick panel under the dash just forward of the door not the sill plate. As always I look forward hearing from you Thank You Rich Mozzetta and Jim Durham

As noted, the carpet goes under the kick panel...one of the places you have to be a bit careful when cutting...

Sorry Fred, I was thinking "Rocker" Panel.

When you do the passenger side, make certain the carpet is tucked properly into the sill step area before the right kick panel and heater cover goes in.

BTW, I use a piece of plastic bag against the center radio/heater console on the right side where the 3 J-Nuts are for the left side of the heater cover. This protects the paint on that right side when the heater cover slides against it.

And it's best to install the heater cover to the right kick panel and put them both in as a assembly. Just leave the upper right screw(the hidden one) off of the assembly and just one screw and flat nut on the bottom. If you put a screw in up top with the flatnut behind it, the screw won't clear the hinge pillar. You can reach up and over the kick panel later for the top screw and flatnut. Long skinny hands and fingers help.

I guess I should mention that you need to make sure you have the wire shields at each outboard side of the car below the sill plates....many cars are missing them or they are rusted out; repros are available. If you don't use them you'll have a bad transition from under the seal plate to the floor boards... Mine were badly rusted.
