    C2 backup light switch

I purchased a backup light switch made by Lectric Limited from LI Corvette. The switch has gray silicone smeared on the switch. My original does not have any silicone on it. The catalog image for LI Corvette shows the silicone, the image in the Lectric Limited shows none.

    Which is correct?

    Thank you,

    Randy

    Randy,

Every original GM BU Lamp Switch I have seen has some level of grey rubberized coating. It was used as a sealant for the exposed wire contacts and as water repellent. Some have more than others.

I believe the original sealant may not have been actually RTV(Room Temperature Vulcanizing) silicone, but a rubberized product of some sort. Not exactly sure but the original seems more brittle with age. The grey silicone used on the reproductions is probably a better product and will last longer.

Attached is a photo of an original back-up lamp switch. This is the 68-78 switch but the C2 switch was similar with respect to the rubber coating.
