Tips Needed for '72 T-Top Stainless Trim Install

    Folks:

Continuing the full NCRS restore of my '72 Coupe, I would like to see if anyone has any tips for installing the edge trim on the T-tops. It's been too long since I removed the trim, so I can't recall the order in which the pieces were removed. There's three pieces, I.e., front edge, side edge and a connector or cap that connects the two. Do the edge pieces go on first and then the connector that goes over them (the connector is then riveted to top)? I guess the real question is will the connector snap over the top of the two edge pieces once they are already in place? Also should some sort of lubricant (perhaps a thun layer of soapy water to get the edge trim pieces to slide over the edges of the t-top?

Some help or encouraging words needed as I've already managed a few scratches in a very expensive paint job ( so far just on the driver side top).

    thanks in advance

    Regards,
    Roger Dupler

been a real long time since I did this.
I can't remember the order but one word of advice I can give -

be sure the build up of clear, base and primer is not to thick.
the front piece has to be slipped over the leading edge and taped down.
if there is excessive material, its gonna be a real 1st class B***H to get it on without screwing up the clear/paint.

I spent some time wet sanding the clear on the edge (about 1/4" - 3/16") back - just on the front and a little around the bend.
    then polished it for finish.

*** lacquer paint goes on pretty thin, even multiple coats.
the pieces went over the edge/lip without to much fuss on factory painted cars.

I can't really remember the order, but I'm pretty sure I installed/riveted the side pieces in place.
Then installed the coupler on the front piece and did the install as a unit
then did the last rivet once completely assembled.

    Hope some of this helps...

    Bill
