C2 License Light Lens and 66 Judging Guide

The 66 TIM&JG describes the license light lens in part...'The lens and frame are marked "GUIDE LI-60" in raised letters. The part number 5951010 should also be present in small but raised numbers. Clearly visible through the lens are distinctive half round "LP" grooves slightly offset from the center mounting screw hole and 6 plastic molded protrusions on the inside'.

The first picture below has a Trim Parts reproduction on top and what I believe is an original on the bottom. The Trim Parts lens has all the characteristics described on the guide, plus it has their mold mark CMD. That is the small circle on the lower right side of the lens. I also show an arrow pointing to what I assume is one of the 6 plastic molded protrusions described in the guide.

The bottom lens, again which I though was an original, has the part number 5951010 and the number 4 slightly to the right of the part number. I assume the 4 is a mold number.

Now for my dilemma - The 'original' does not have the 6 plastic molded protrusions that the guide describes. The second picture I posted is the picture from the TIM&JG of the License Light. I do not believe it has the protrusions either.

Since the guide says the 6 plastic molded protrusions should be there, I'll likely use this lens for the regional judging, but I would be interested to know if perhaps the guide could be incorrect on this point.

    Thanks,

I have an original that has the 6 protrusions.

      Don,

The top is the Trim Parts with the protrusions. The bottom is a replacement from GM. The bottom is not an original that was placed on your Corvette at the factory. It's a NORS! New Old Replacement Stock!

Don, one other note, the light socket on the Gm service replacements are slightly different, the originals have a slot cut into the socket for the bulb tangs to engage into, and the serv. replacements are a stamped slot. During judging they will note this. Not sure if your manual spells this out. as far as the trim parts I believe there make a correct lens, but socket is wrong.

Yes, the judging guide states that the bulb socket should have "open" J grooves for the bulb attachment. The Trim Parts repro has a closed J. I have an original that I am restoring. It has some rust pin holes.

The guide also says the inside of the housing was painted dull silver. I'm not having any luck finding dull silver paint. I have found silver, silver metallic, dull aluminum, and dull metallic aluminum. But no dull silver. I've scoured FLAPS, hardware stores and the internet.

Not in the Ballpark. Use Krylon Dull Aluminum and forget about it!
